Pattinson stars in the dark comedy as a quirky twenty-something musician on the verge of a quarter-life crises. We know this because in the clip, he looks into
the mirror and gives himself a pep talk: "You're not a nobody, you're a sombody." He then gives his reflection a playful little punch. Hey, wait a second -- vampires aren't supposed to have reflections! Oh right. We forgot. This movie was actually made *before* Pattinson became bloodsucker Edward Cullen. Watch the trailer now.
Could a "Twilight" meets "High School Musical" mash-up save the economy?
"How to Be" director Oliver Irving says he searched for a lead actor for over a year, and knew instantly that Pattinson was "the one" when he showed up at a
casting. "Rob was thinking of giving up acting but wanted to try out an indie film where he could get into a character," Irving told Teen Vogue.

Lucky for Irving, his star-dar was exceedingly accurate, and now Pattinson's "little movie that could" will finally premiere on-demand on IFC Festival Direct beginning this Wednesday. Entertainment Weekly’s Uncovers Kristen Stewart
Kristen Stewart gives her trademark sideways smile on the third Twilight cover of Entertainment Weekly.
The 18-year-old actress sat down with EW.com for a candid interview with the magazine to talk about the upcoming vampire film. ”I just want to make sure Twilight’s worth the ginormous attention it receives. Everyone said this is a big-deal movie. But I hate when people celebrate before you have something to celebrate about,” Kristen said.
She also reveals that there is only one man in the world who could play the Edward to her Bella. “Catherine [Hardwicke] liked a couple of the guys [who auditioned], and I was like, ‘Are you joking? I can’t do the movie unless Rob [Pattinson] does it.”’

(Nov. 7) - 'Twilight,' the first of four novels in Stephenie Meyer's world, tells the story of 17-year-old Bella who moves from Arizona to Washington to live with her father, only to fall in love.
Her object of affection, however, turns out to be a vampire named Edward.
Meyer's books are a hit world wide, selling over 17 million copies of the series, so it was a certainty that at least the first would be turned into a feature film.
Anticipating what may be a huge hit, the latest issue of Entertainment Weekly features three covers of 'Twilight' stars Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart -- one of them together and one solo cover each.
The stars of the movie -- out in theaters on Nov. 21 -- sat down with the magazine to discuss their part in the Vampire-craze. Highlights Below

'Twilight' Tuesday: Your Questions Uncover Robert Pattinson's Hip-Hop Dreams And MorePlus: Ashley Greene wants an action figure; Kellan Lutz keeps qui
And since the greatest fireworks shows always end with a big bang, this week is a good one. During the past year, some of our most popular "Twilight" Tuesdays have featured parts one, two and three in the series, as we brought the questions you submitted straight to the stars.
Now, for the final time (well, before the sequels, anyway), read on to learn about RPattz's desire to join the Wu-Tang Clan, Ashley's desire to kick Barbie's butt and the shocking truth about which castmember runs like a mountain goat.
Q: "If 'Twilight' is a hit, what would be the coolest thing about being in a blockbuster?" - Puppy Love
Ashley Greene (Alice Cullen): I want an action figure. An action figure would be really, really cool.
MTV: Are there any plans? Have you heard anything?
Greene: There's been talk. Hopefully, [the film will] do well enough that all that stuff can come out, and they'll have posters and action figures and everything. [To Jackson] Would you want an action figure?
Jackson Rathbone (Jasper Hale): Sure, why not?
MTV: What would you do with your action figure once you got it?
Greene: I would put it up on a pedestal, with stuff around it. The funny thing is if they came out with an action figure — they did such a good job at making us look the part — that my action figure wouldn't even really look like me as a person. But it would be cool to have it, as a character.
MTV: You could have her hang out with Barbie.
Greene: No, it would kick Barbie's butt. It would not be like Barbie.
Q: "What can you tell us about Robert's music?" - Alice
Kellan Lutz (Emmett Cullen): Actually, we would go out a lot in Oregon when we were shooting. There was a little karaoke place, a bar next to the hotel where we were staying at. We would go there every Thursday, and he would just play and rock out. He is an amazing artist.
MTV: Robert has two songs on the soundtrack. Could you tell us anything about the lyrics?
Lutz: No, I could not! Because that is his passion, that is his baby. He told me, he was like, "Do not!" He would come to our house and he would play for some of our friends, and when we were all hanging out he said [in a bad RPattz voice]: "Do not repeat these!" That was a terrible Rob impersonation, by the way.
Q: "There's a lot of stunt work. Who is the worst at it?" - Wolf23
Nikki Reed (Rosalie Hale): I could tell you immediately, but I don't know if that's, like, the nicest thing to say.
Lutz: What?
Reed: He's asking, "Who would you say is the least athletic?" We'll have the same answer.
Lutz: Let's hear yours — go ahead.
Reed: No, let's say, "One, two, three," and then say it.
Reed: One, two, three ...
Lutz and Reed: Rob.
Lutz: Yes! Awesome.
Reed: Rob is the least athletic person.
Lutz: But he runs cute! His running is cute — and I rarely ever say "cute" as a word.
Reed: He runs like a mountain goat.
Lutz: They'll tell me, Emmett, to run in front of him to block him out, so he looks cool.
Q: "Team Edward, Team Jacob or Team Switzerland?" - Andreanna
Taylor Lautner (Jacob Black): Um ... Team Switzerland?
MTV: Do you know what that question means? Could you explain it? [Editor's note: This question was asked before Lautner began shooting the film, many months ago.]
Lautner: I don't. [Laughs.]
MTV: Well, the fans divide themselves into whether they think Bella should go with Edward, Jacob or Switzerland — which means in between, since Switzerland is a neutral country.
Lautner: OK, gotcha. That makes more sense Considering that I'm Jacob, I definitely would have to say Team Jacob all the way.
MTV: I love that you heard the Team Jacob option and still went with Switzerland, even though you're Jacob.
Lautner: Exactly. [Laughs.] I just thought it sounded interesting.
Q: "Cam, do you and Robert stay in character and hate each other between takes?" - Yasmine
Cam Gigandet (James): Very much. [Laughs.] No, not at all. No, definitely not.
MTV: What would you guys talk about between takes, before you had to turn it on again and start slamming each other in the face?
Gigandet: We would spend a lot of our time talking about our work and the scene and any ideas we had — that was how we spent most of the in-between time at work. If we went to dinner or anything, it would be about our lives, I guess. What do friends talk about?
Q: "Kristen, is there a Bella moment that reminds you of yourself in real life?" - Ken
Kristen Stewart (Bella Swan): I think going into high school for the first day. The line "suffer-in-silence type" — some people get the wrong idea if you're quiet and you're just not the most gregarious person. [They think] that you're self-involved, rude, possibly, sometimes frigid. I get that a lot from people that don't know me, like online. All you guys think that I don't smile ever. It's not true. I do smile sometimes. But walking into high school, for sure, is overwhelming. I'm not the type of person to just stroll in and be like, "Hey, everybody! How are ya?" So, I could relate to that.
Q: "If you could play any other "Twilight" character, who would it be and why? - Amal
Christian Serratos (Angela Weber): Oh, jeez, that's such a hard question. I'd probably do one of the bad vampires — not necessarily in "Twilight," but in the entire series. Maybe even James or Victoria. [I'd want to] play kind of another character, kind of a badass.
Q: "Rob, do you like Arctic Monkeys?" - Jen Elias
Robert Pattinson (Edward Cullen): Yeah, I do kind of like them, actually. Not that much, but I like some of their songs.
MTV: What's your favorite song by them?
Pattinson: I don't know them that well ... probably their first one. What was their first song called? [Editor's note: We think Rob is referring to "I Bet You Look Good on the Dancefloor."] I've completely forgotten what it's called. They're all right.
MTV: Who is your favorite band?
Pattinson: At the moment, I've really gotten into hip-hop again recently. I'm reliving my childhood. I've been listening to a lot of Wu-Tang Clan. I always wanted to be a rapper when I was younger. That's always what I wanted to be before I started acting — that's what I wanted to do, was be a rapper. I didn't have the right physicality about it — I'm not very threatening.

You’ve spent the past year keeping a close eye on MTV and our “Twilight” Tuesday series, eager for the very latest in news about Stephenie Meyer’s underground vampire franchise. Now, just weeks before “Twilight” hits theaters (and as we publish our final ” ‘Twilight’ Stars Answer Fans’ Burning Questions,”) the phenomenon is finally breaking through to the mainstream – and MTV is eager to celebrate with our Twilighter friends.
MTV News will be holding a very special “Twilight” event in Los Angeles on November 7th, as we tape a television special celebrating the much-anticipated movie। “Twilight” stars Robert Pattinson, Kristen Stewart and director Catherine Hardwicke will be in attendance to address the crowd, and they’ll premiere never-before-seen footage from the movie some two weeks before it hits theaters. Hardwicke will also take questions from attendees during a Q & A session.
Stay tuned for details about when the show will air on MTV, but before you begin abusing the “O”, “M” and “E” buttons on your keyboard, you’ll want to know this: MTV would like to thank you by filling our audience with the real, hardcore fans who’ve been following our “Twilight” coverage so loyally over all these months.

"Twilight" movie stars Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene to Attend TwiCon 2009
Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene, who will portray siblings Emmett and Alice Cullen in the much-anticipated "Twilight" movie due in theatres next month, have agreed to meet fans and appear at TwiCon - expected to be the largest of the fan conventions dedicated to the Stephenie Meyer books. More than 2,500 devotees of the Twilight series are expected to descend on Dallas July 30-Aug. 2, 2009, to celebrate their devotion to the vampire romance series.
Dallas, TX (PRWEB) October 27, 2008 -- Fans of the fictional Cullen family of the Twilight series of books will have a chance to meet two of their movie equivalents at the TwiCon 2009 fan convention.
Kellan Lutz and Ashley Greene, who will portray siblings Emmett and Alice Cullen in the much-anticipated "Twilight" movie due in theatres next month, have agreed to meet fans and appear at TwiCon - expected to be the largest of the fan conventions dedicated to the Stephenie Meyer books. The news was announced during a BlogTV broadcast by Twilight Vlog and YouTube personality Bailey (NoMoreMarbles) this evening from the Sheraton Dallas Hotel and Convention Center, the host site of TwiCon 2009.
More than 2,500 devotees of the Twilight series are expected to descend on Dallas July 30-Aug. 2, 2009, to celebrate their devotion to the vampire romance series. Organizers of TwiCon 2009 previously announced that Mike Welch (starring as Mike Newton in the Summit Entertainment film); series expert Bailey (NoMoreMarbles); band Bella Cullen Project; Kaleb the Twilight Guy; and parody group The Evil Igaunas will appear as special guests at the fan fest.
"Adding Kellan and Ashley to the bill further solidifies TwiCon 2009's position as THE fan event to attend next year," said Becky Scoggins, managing partner of the TwiCon event. "We are excited about the opportunity to bring the books and movie to life for fans and expect to announce more special guests in the coming weeks."
TwiCon 2009 is the premiere unofficial conference celebrating Stephenie Meyer and the Twilight saga. The event is expected to feature a Twilight movie screening, live Twilight inspired band performances, a Volturi Masque Ball, opportunities to meet Twilight cast, dozens of breakout sessions, panels, workshops and more, as well as a Vendor Hall where dozens of vendors will offer items and collectibles inspired by the Twilight books and movie. The event also will feature an Artists' Alley fan exhibition of handmade art and goods.
TwiCon organizers will actively be promoting the summer conference during the "Twilight" premiere weekend Nov. 15-18. Vlogger Bailey and others will share the red carpet with the cast and crew at the Hollywood premiere; and will be panelists at a special Twilight Live podcast -- hosted by TwiCon partner Becka and featuring a live audience and a slew of special guests, including Peter Facinelli, Jackson Rathbone, Mike Welch, Kaleb and MTV personality Larry Carroll -- at the Borders bookstore in Westwood.
All-inclusive tickets for the convention are $255 and available at http://www.twicon.org/. Tickets have been selling briskly and organizers expect all 2,500 tickets to be snapped up quickly, Scoggins said.

Exclusive Interview: Peter Facinelli on 'Twilight'

You may remember pretty boy Peter Facinelli from his stint on Fox's short-lived speedfest "Fast Lane." But more likely you've seen him deliver incisive, slightly-under-the-radar turns on quirky TV fare like "Six Feet Under" and "Damages."
Here, the Queens native offers Premiere.com the inside scoop on Twilight's veggie vampires, that unforgettable baseball scene, his wife Jennie Garth's Twilighter status and why he almost turned down the role of Dr. Carlisle Cullen in the first place.
So how did you end up as Carlisle Cullen, the leader of Twilight's vegetarian vampire clan?I got a call from my agent saying there's a vampire movie that Catherine Hardwicke's directing. And the first thing out of my mouth [was], "I don't want to do a vampire movie."
What do you have against vampires?I just thought they were silly, you know? All the ones that I'd seen are all blood and guts and gore — more like zombie films than the mystical tale of the vampire, which is where it originated. So I thought it would be like that, because there was a time, right after Interview with the Vampire, where they were making a ton of vampire movies and I'd get like these really god-awful scripts. And so I had that taste in my mouth that vampire movies were just these Dawn of the Dead zombie types [of movies].
So you were about to write it off?Yeah, completely. But I liked Catherine Hardwicke's work, so it was interesting enough for me to say, "Okay, I'll read the book." Because we didn't even have a script at that point. So I read the book in a day. It was such a great read and I was so excited by it, because it was kind of a throwback to the original vampire tales with their sexual metaphors about the bloodthirsty but beautiful creatures. The images from the old school black and white movies were what came to mind when I first read the book. It was a beautiful, forbidden love story set in this vampire world — so it would make a fun movie. So I went in and read for Catherine, and I think I did a good job. But, truth be known, I didn't get the role originally.
Really? What happened?I thought I did a great job and Catherine liked me, but there was another actor that the studio was pushing for. I'm not naming names, no! I don't want him kicking himself. I guess he was doing another movie or they couldn't work out his deal or something. But when I read, I loved Catherine. She's full of passion and energy. I thought she was great and I really wanted to work with her. So when I found out I didn't get the role, I was bummed. Then I was in this bookstore and I saw this book of, like, 50 years of vampires in Hollywood — again, those old school shots of Bela Lugosi and the original Dracula and just the history and the lore. So I bought this book, and I sent it with a note to Catherine saying, "Look, I'm sorry it didn't work out. I really admire your work. I hope this book inspires you through the making of Twilight." And so when she got the call that this other actor wasn't working out, she looked down and saw that book and said, "Well, what about Peter Facinelli?" So I always joke that I bought the role of Dr. Carlisle Cullen for $29.99. And I was worth every penny.
And what did you think of the character of Carlisle? He's sort of an odd creature, a vegetarian vampire father figure.He's just a great soul, if vampires can have souls. He's 300-something-years-old, but looks 26. I kind of connected to the father figurehead aspect of him, because I have three children of my own. I enjoyed who he was as the patriarch of the family and how he saved these people's lives rather than taking them. He's sort of anti-vampire, despite being a vampire. It was an interesting nut to crack. And at first I was worried that I looked too young, because Carlisle's kids are in their late teens, early 20s, and I'm about ten years older, so I couldn't really be their father, so it would look strange on film. But in the book, they're his adopted children and he's supposed to be young. But also, he's a doctor, so he has this wisdom about him, which was interesting.
You're getting a lot of doctors now, huh?Yeah, I used to play a lot of cop roles, but now I've graduated to the doctors. I get to play doctor on my new Showtime dramedy, "Nurse Jackie" [with Edie Falco, premiering in January on Showtime], so it is back to back white coats. It's really quirky, not quite "Grey's Anatomy," but not really "Scrubs" either. But this doctor is completely 180 degrees away from Dr. Carlisle Cullen. This guy's a different creature all together. He's kind of cool and confident on the outside, but inside he's a big mess. He could use some tips from Carlisle.
How did you approach the role of Carlisle? Did you try vegetarianism?No, you know, it's weird; I started eating a lot more meat than I usually eat. I was just hungry for red meat the whole time. So it kind of had a backwards effect on me, because normally I'm more on the vegetarian side. So with this, I was eating steak all the time. I kind of [looked at] it from the point of view of being the patriarch in the family. I tried to make sure that even though I looked younger, there was a distinct separation between me and the kids. The character is 300-plus years [old] and he brings a lot of wisdom and experience to the table. So I tried to bring out that dignity and grace. And it was weird because I used to be the youngest one on the set, and this was one of my first projects where I was one of the oldest ones on the set. And that's pretty rare. I guess I'm becoming older. It's a blink of an eye and suddenly I'm the dad. But it was great working with Kristen Stewart, Rob Pattinson, and the other younger actors. Especially the newer actors. They have this energy and they're not jaded yet. So they have this freshness and spontaneity. And they all started calling me dad, which was funny.
Did that freak you out at all?No. I have children, so I'm used to it.
Had you heard about the Twilight Saga before you got the call?No, but I read the book in a day, and I couldn't put it down. I don't know what it is with Stephenie Meyer's writing, whether it's hypnotic or what, but most people I know who have read it can't put it down. My wife ["90210" star Jennie Garth] started reading them after I got the part, and she's on book four now. She literally read one after the other after the other just staying up till two in the morning. She literally couldn't put it down till she had to just pass out.

Have you read the rest of the series?I read the first three because I wanted to get a good sense of Carlisle Cullen. But now Jennie's got Breaking Dawn and she's not giving it up. She's halfway done now. But now I'm reading Stephenie Meyer's The Host. And my daughter Luca is 11, and she's read the first book. I haven't let her read the others yet because she's a little young for the content in those. But I also wanted her to be able to watch Twilight the movie as a story in and of itself. When you start reading the others, you get the bigger picture, but you lose sight of the first one on its own.
What did Luca think of it?She's really, really excited. And it's exciting for me because most of my film and TV work is aimed at adults, so she hasn't been able to see any of it. This is the first movie that I can actually have my kid see, and that's exciting to me. Usually Luca and my other two daughters [Lola and Fiona] can see their mom Jen's work, but they wonder what I do. So this is new for me. I'm excited about it. It's good to be able to have something that my kids can be a part of.
How was shooting in Portland, Oregon? As rainy as it seems?No, you know, we thought there would be a lot of overcast skies — that's why we went there. I don't know if it was global warming or what, but we ended up getting a lot of sunny days. Usually on a film set, sun is good. But with this one, it was the exact opposite. We were hoping for cloud coverage. And we'd want rain but we'd get sun.
Did you guys have to use a lot of SPF 50 to stay pale, or was it a lot of make-up?It was a little bit of both. As soon as we got the parts, we were told, "Do NOT go in the sun." It was in the contract! So I tried to stay out of the sun as much as possible. There was make-up involved, but the more tan you already were, the more make-up you'd need — and you don't want that really thick, cakey make-up on your face. So the paler you were, the easier it was in the make-up chair. So I'd be walking around L.A. pre-shoot, taking the kids to school in a hat and glasses and a hood. I looked like the Unabomber. And my wife would tell me I looked so pale I looked sickly. And then there were the contacts lenses.
How did those go over?I had to wear contacts for this movie I did called Supernova, so I've sort of gotten used to them. But when I first did that film, two technicians had to literally tie me to the chair and pop them in, I had such trouble. So some of the kids really had trouble with them on Twilight. But they did a lot better than I did on my first contact-lenses gig. We did the golden color because the Cullens have those golden eyes. And then, when we're hungry, we have to pop the red ones in. Those were pretty freaky. I definitely look very different in this film, between the blonde hair, the ghostly skin, and those contacts. It's different than anything else I've done before, which I loved.
They added a lot more action to the film version. Was it live-action or was there a lot of green screen?We had a lot of rehearsals. And these rehearsals were like cat classes to teach us that graceful, cat-like movement. We had to go in big with and then tone it down and down and down till it was very subtle. And we had a lot of action training sequences. But the biggest stunts were for the baseball scene — the scene with the thunder, where we're moving at super-speed. But we didn't do a lot of green screen, actually. What I love about this film is that it's kind of the anti-Harry Potter. They're big on green screen and studio perfection. This film is more raw, more character-driven. It's kind of like an art house film with a very commercial story. Catherine [Hardwicke] shoots almost documentary-style on this. There's a lot of hand-held with Twilight. It's very different than other films.
Are you aware the Twilighters and Twi-Hards, as they call themselves, who have been following the film's production?There's too much to follow! The fans starting showing up to the set before we really even started. They're so excited and it's exciting for us to be making something that people really want to see. I think if people are talking about it at all, it's a good thing. Whether they're what they're saying is positive or negative, it will get people to the theaters — and I think they'll be surprised.
Do you think the adaptation stays true to the book?Well, it's hard when you're doing a movie based on a book, because everyone already sees their own version in their head. So you can't ever match someone's interpretation of it. So this is Catherine's interpretation and our interpretations of the characters. But people going to the theater will be bringing their interpretations with them.
There's already talk about a New Moon adaptation.I'm on board for any and all Twilight Saga adaptations they want to make. I'm a huge fan. It's fun doing a movie that you'd really want to see. I have people come up and tell me they're crazy Twilight fans, and my response is, "So am I." I'd love to see more movies made.
So are you Team Edward or Team Jacob?Well, I'm completely biased but I have to say Team Edward. He's my family. And my wife is totally Team Edward. But it depends on which book she's reading. At one point, she was on New Moon, and she was like, "I'm Team Jacob, how could Edward do that?" But now she's dedicated to Edward.
